This is an insane record. I’m someone who’s really in tune with his surroundings, and I’m also involved with a lot of military stuff. I felt like I needed to use that
military symbology to convey my message. I use a lot of military language because I stay up-to-date with what’s happening around the world. Nigeria's history, the war in
Gaza, and what’s happening in Palestine. I needed to preach my message, and I feel like every one of us is a soldier, so it made sense to lean into that side of myself. That
was the first time I embodied my commander status. “Commander” is about my purpose in life, what I stand for, and why we should not give up. Funny enough, the session where
“Commander” was made wasn’t my session. The producer, Theemz, came to record someone else, and he played the beat for the song. Once he played it, I connected to it, and I
asked him for it. He gave it to me, and I went to the studio to record on that same day. I had a lot of inspiration to finish the song, but I didn’t think the second verse
was for me. I just felt like it was for Wizard Chan. Shoutout to Chan, he came on and he did his thing.
